About Us

The Congregation meets at least twice annually with a budget meeting in January and an annual reporting meeting in June. Extra meetings are sometimes held to deal with urgent business, such as the hiring of a new pastor.

Bethel Mennonite Church is committed to protect children in our programs from harm or abuse. Our Safe Church policy requires all volunteers to complete a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Check. The detailed policy is available here.

Each committee and sub-committee of the congregation is expected to submit an annual report of the activities of the committee in May of each year. The report book for the past year can be found here.

The Church Council is a group that meets monthly to make decisions and recommendations regarding the actions of the congregation. It consists of the executive and the chairs of the main committees of the church. The Pastoral Team members are ex-officio members of the council. The executive sets the agenda and screens proposals for the larger body. The term for the Chair is two years, with extra years spent as Future Chair and Past Chair.

The Church Council and the Congregation are governed by our constitution, which can be found here. It sets out policies and procedures for how decisions need to be made and who gets to make them. Additionally, each committee has a policy manual which sets out in detail what areas that committee is responsible for and how the committee will operate.

The Finance Committee is responsible for the overall administration and management of church finances.

The Property Committee is responsible for ensuring the church building and property are well maintained and the spaces within are functional for the work of the church.

The Personnel Committee has an overviewing responsibility to ensure that pastors and support staff have the training and the means to conduct the church’s mission and that they are compensated according to approved guidelines.

The Gift Discernment Committee is given the task of finding people to work on Bethel’s various committees. With an eye to matching people’s gifts and interests with opportunities, we seek to help people find joy and fulfillment in their involvements at Bethel.

The Communications Committee strives to facilitate connection between the members of the Bethel Family and help them become engaged in the work of the Church, at Bethel and beyond.

The Deacons are tasked with paying attention to the spiritual wellbeing and health of the Bethel Mennonite Church community. To fulfill this mandate, various Deacon ministries support worship and life in the community.
